 The roundtable discussion focused on the border crisis, violent crime, the elimination of cash bail, and policy solutions to keep Illinois families safe.

Rockford, IL – On Wednesday, Judge Joe McGraw, candidate for Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, hosted law enforcement officials to discuss growing threats to public safety in Illinois. Participants included Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana, Stephenson County Sheriff Steve Stovall, and State Representative John Cabello.

The Rockford Register Star wrote the following in its article, Border talk dominates law enforcement roundtable in Rockford, detailing the discussion:

“The immigration crisis and the New Year’s Eve arrival of a plane loaded with 355 migrants at the Chicago Rockford International Airport dominated much of the conversation. They also discussed struggles with police recruitment and the opioid addiction crisis.”

“[Sheriff] Caruana instead blamed a broken federal immigration system and seized the opportunity to endorse McGraw and criticize [Eric] Sorensen. ‘I am supporting Joe because I know Joe will engage, I know he will talk to local law enforcement,’ Caruana said. ‘He understands us all, and I think he would keep us abreast. I am a little saddened by his opponent right now who has been no help at all, no knowledge, no phone calls to any of us. I haven’t heard from him.’”
